We started by filming the second scene in which all of the actors are walking and there are close ups of each characters. We all went away and tried to get the props and costume we needed for the filming process and there were some successes and failures within our filming process which I will go into in further detail. Overall I feel I did okay with the clips I had to work with and if the filming was better, the editing would have been easier and the end clip would have looked better.Īfter planning what we wanted to create in comparison to the true opening scene of Reservoir Dogs. I then used the Basic Text tool to put in two key-frames so that the word Reservoir Dogs would move up onto the clip and stop just above the heads of the group of people. Then I put in the clip of the final shot in which the actors are walking away from the camera. I then had a problem as we had thought we had filmed a close-up of James who was playing the part of Lawrence Tierney and so as a sort of last resort I chose to put in the original clip which didn’t look too seamless to be honest. I also used the text tool to put in the names of the actors underneath the actors faces in the correct font, which was Palantino, and colour which was a sort of light orange. I then started to put in the close ups of the actors, slowing down every clip to make it similar to the original Reservoir Dogs. I then put in the second shot of the actors moving across the frame and change the speed of the clip to make the scene slower which is what happens in the film. I used the effect tool to make the clip fade to black.

I thought that the clip was very dark but was unsure of how to make it appear brighter and so proceeded to make the clip as close as possible. I began by putting the first clip at the beginning and trying to get the clip to the same length as the original. First I started by compiling all of my groups clips together and choosing those which were the best clips of those shots as some hat to be done again due to filming areas. Overall I learnt from my mistakes and feel that although the project didn’t go perfectly, I was able to see what to do in the future and what to avoid when using the camera and editing software.Īfter filming the opening scenes from Quentin Tarantino’s famous film, Reservoir Dogs, we began to edit our clips together. I would also check the auto-focus and turn it off if needed. As well as this I would try and match up the colour of the font better and use the pipette tool to make all the lettering the same. Also I would look more carefully at my clips before putting the camera away to make the shots were recorded and correct. If I were to do this project again I would be more careful about camera movements and when using the dolly i would move the camera carefully and make sure that it didn’t shake.

Also the colour of the font changed between two shots and so looked less professional. After watching my opening I realised that it broke the fluidity of the video. As well as this, when we were recording the close up of James, the camera did not actually record so when it came to editing I was without a clip and so improvised by using the original clip. Also it was shaky as when the camera was on the dolly it was being pulled by the handle that is used to pan and tilt. The camera work in general was awful and was constantly going in and out of focus as someone hadn’t taken off auto-focus. Now I will talk about what didn’t go so well. I also think that the editing of the clips together was very fluid apart from one shot which I will also talk about later. Also, we had most of our props such as the “cigarettes” which we re-created by using candy sticks. Also the movements within scenes were generally right such as Richard, who played Eddie Cabbot, tripped over in the diner, however this was harder to see due to our camera positioning, which I will move onto later. The things that went well included the font that I used was the same as the one used in the original film. However, seeing it on a bigger screen and in silence I began to see the many mistakes I had made with either the editing or filming.įirstly I shall go through what went right, which I shall warn you, is a very small paragraph.

I thought that my video was well edited and alright before the screening. So, we had now finished our planning, filming and editing and finally began to watch each others videos of the re-creation of the Reservoir Dogs opening initially directed and written by Quentin Tarantino.
